During his visit, he had the opportunity to learn more about DZPG's research and topics such as urban mental health. "Mental health in urban areas is a fundamentally important topic, especially here in the Ruhr region," Gehring wrote on his Instagram account after the visit last Friday.
A central aim of the DZPG is to translate research findings into new diagnostic methods and therapeutic approaches for patients, their relatives, and the public. Until now, this translation process has usually taken many years. The DZPG network provides researchers with effective tools to translate laboratory findings into practice more quickly.
After his visit, Gehring was impressed: "It was a pleasure to see the enthusiasm with which cutting-edge research on the mental health of children and families is being conducted in Bochum and how the results directly benefit health care. Great and important work is being done here, not only in research and teaching, but also in care! Translation as it should be".
During the two-year development phase of the DZPG, research projects will be launched, infrastructures will be established and measures for networking, promotion of young scientists and patient participation will be initiated. A digital panel for mental health research in Germany and two research infrastructures ("Youth Mental Health" and "Psychotherapy Research") will be established at the Bochum-Marburg partner site. Another goal is to develop a prevention strategy for the mental health of children, adolescents, and their relatives in urban areas and to coordinate cooperation with the German Center for Child and Adolescent Health (DZKJ).
