New Online Training: Identifying and Treating Early Childhood Adversities – Free and Certified

Early childhood adversities, such as emotional and physical neglect, violence, experiences of migration, fleeing from conflict, or parental separation, often have serious impacts on the mental and physical health of the affected children and adolescents. These traumatic experiences influence core mechanisms such as stress management, immune function, and learning ability, which can have profound effects not only in childhood but throughout the entire lifespan. The consequences are so far-reaching that in many cases, they lead to lifelong health problems and may even reduce life expectancy.

To better prepare medical and therapeutic professionals to face these challenges, a new comprehensive online course will be available starting in November 2024. This training is aimed at professionals in the fields of medicine, psychotherapy, child and youth services, and related disciplines, with the goal of deepening their understanding of early childhood adversities and providing effective prevention and intervention strategies.

The course offers a detailed introduction to the various types of early childhood adversities and their potential long-term impacts on mental and physical health. In addition to a solid overview of the epidemiology, the course places a strong emphasis on prevention and early detection. Participants will gain valuable insights into modern diagnostic and therapeutic methods, applicable to both pediatric and adult medicine. Established treatment approaches will be presented, aimed at strengthening the resilience of affected individuals and sustainably improving their quality of life.

A particular focus of the training is on interdisciplinary collaboration. The growing understanding of the complexity and far-reaching consequences of early childhood adversities requires professionals from various fields, such as medicine, psychology, and social work, to work closely together to ensure holistic care for those affected.
